She was confused. Elaine sensed it. She couldn’t see her facial expressions, but she was aware of her emotions.
“Maybe he’s still in this world, but he hasn’t been in LA for a while,” she tried to cheer her up. It was a possibility, wasn’t it? Stopping the Universe unraveling itself was more her concern than Voldemort’s or Narcisa Malfoy’s locations. Some people needed priorities. It would follow a reasonable pattern as well.
Why? She could answer that.
“I care for people,” Elaine admitted in an earnest voice. “I care for you being confused and penniless as I care for those who you could persuade to offer you money in case you need it. This way, both are safe.” She paused. “I could have not interfered. But it was my choice, like is your choice to reject my aid.”
