Elaine dropped the bread crumbs to ground, clasping her hands to sweep off any remains. Immediately, the flock of hungry birds fell into it, devouring until the last grain. She hummed something to herself then had her shoulder shrank and shrugged. “Mm. He isn’t here,” she told Bellatrix. “He used to be, but he is here no more.” She leaned off the wall, motioning to the confused witch to follow her in a walk. How long since she walked? Really walked with her two physical feet? Her legs needed stretching.
“I did not bring you here. There are rules… I can’t dismiss what I didn’t summon,” Elaine explained, eyes still fixed on Bellatrix, even if it didn’t do any good. She couldn’t see her. “The ones who pulled you to this world and in this time are two forces. One of light, the Powers that Be, and one of darkness, the Senior Partners, both are in conflict for this city.” She tugged her lips in a reassuring smile. “Who would know Los Angeles was such a startling prize?”
She paused in her walk, considering her situation. “Your best chance to not get involved is to find Narcissa and stay with her. If that’s what you want.”
