The voice came from behind Bella. Elaine was leaning on the wall of the shop beside the Café, feeding the pigeons with pieces of bread. The birds gathered at her feet, framing her with fluttering wings. She looked as if she had arrived a long time ago and she did, but she waited until Bellatrix had released the man to make herself visible. Why did she bother to help this wicked woman? Because everybody deserves an explanation. She wanted to see how far she would reach to earn it.
Elaine looked at the witch, eyes whitened by her blindness.
