And while he had no heart, hers was breaking. Snapping into little pieces that Jake was going to have to put back together. Jake, her Jake. What would she do without the boy? She had no idea. She lifted the arm that he had been holding, the one that she had pulled from him, and wrapped it about herself to try to hold herself together.
"I was thinking." She snapped in reply, glaring at him. "I had a lot on my mind. Alice...told me you were here, but I didn't believe her..and now.." She got quiet again as she felt it constrict again and she looked away from him, trying not to cry. Trying not to show him anything she was feeling but it was harder. She tightened her arm about herself again.
His, however, wasn't so easily answered. She looked back to him and tried not to cry, though her voice cracked a little. "Charlie? Yeah..okay. Ask about that. And don't worry about me, Edward. I can take care of myself just fine." And if she couldn't, Jake was doing a wonderful job of it. "Besides, I didn't mean to be here. I got here by sheer accident. I was visiting Jake and then I walked outside, and I was here suddenly. But don't worry about me..I'm fine."
The arm holding her chest tightened about herself and she reached out to touch the marble perfection of his face, but stopped halfway, just dropped her hand down.
