He still needed to meet up with Alice, and was well aware of that fact. There were things that needed to be said, important things that he wanted to tell her. Annie… That was something that Edward was dying to reveal. She was interesting and unlike anybody that he’d ever met before, and that alone was worth bringing up. But the real reason behind his desire to speak of her likely had to do with her ability, which Edward was still awestruck over. A human who could use her mind to shake windows, to trigger alarms and lift solid objects into the air was not something that he would pass up. No, of course it wasn’t. She was much too… well, unique to be overlooked.
But right now, at this very moment, he was not expecting to run into a familiar face, least of all, the face of Isabella Swan. If anything, Edward was out and about only because he needed to purchase a new cell phone, which he had yet to actually do. He had discovered that his old one no longer worked, and that was expected, since it was now in a million pieces and sitting in a waste basket twenty miles away. He blamed that on Victoria. She’d been the cause of his dropped cell phone, and that was just one more thing that he could dislike about her.
Anyway, leaving all thoughts of Victoria behind, Edward proceeded on his way, quietly slipping past lingering pedestrians and keeping his eyes ahead of him. He wouldn’t have stopped if it weren’t for the scent that invaded his silence, the familiar aroma of her. Bella. Here, so close to him, a few steps away… and nearly prepared to walk out into incoming traffic.
Despite his surprise and the blow that struck his chest, Edward was quick to reach her. People moved out of his way as if they somehow knew that he’d throw them away from his path if they didn’t, and in no more than a few seconds, he was reaching out to stop her, his hand on her arm.
