If Annie understood him or not was anyone's guess. However, as he continued speaking her rocking did slow until it ultimately stopped. Her gaze, which had been focused on her lap, slowly rose until she was looking at Sam eye to eye. Her expression was a somber one, her brow still furrowed.
For a heartbeat, she simply stared at him. To an outsider, it appeared as though that's all she was doing, too. Staring. However that wasn't the case. While she might not be able to really comprehend everything at exactly the same level as most normal fifteen-year-olds, she did have the ability to scan his thoughts enough to get a general idea of what he was saying and whether it was the truth or not. So that's what she was doing at the moment and, as soon as she was certain that he really wasn't from here, he was telling the truth, and he wasn't a bad man, Annie abruptly smiled.
