When the streetlight exploded, both Sam and Al jumped to the side. Of course, Al jumped into a mailbox, but being a hologram he passed right through it. And Sam jumped over to the opposite end of the bench.
"Sam. Something's going on here..."
It was more than just the light popping for Al, though. The girl, Annie, reminded him of someone. Someone he hadn't thought about in a long time. His sister, Trudy. But Al didn't bring that up because Sam's mind was so swiss-cheesed. Sam rarely remembered those kinds of things. And Al didn't like to make him feel bad.
"Right. Well, you're right, Annie. I'm Sam. But to everyone else, I'm Douglas. Okay? It's ... Well, it's like a game that Al and I like to play."
Sam looked over at Al.
"Game? Oh, right! Game! Yes! It's like make-believe. Sam pretends to be Douglas and I pretend to be invisible. And you pretend to blow up lightbulbs ... or something."
