As grateful as Katara was to be reunited with Toph, she had also forgotten how utterly frustrating the other girl was capable of being. Honestly, the only other person who managed to bug her more was Sokka. Maybe, she mused, it was better he wasn't here. Yet. She would rather him be here, of course, since they had never been seperated for very long since joining Aang in his quest to defeat the Fire Lord, and because she loved her brother and worried about him, but maybe it was better that she was able to get used to being around Toph again, first, before having to deal with her brother as well.
"I think Cordelia mentioned earthquakes once or twice," she admitted, forcing herself to remain calm. Almost as an afterthought, she added, "So you might want to be careful with your bending." Almost as soon as the words left her mouth, Katara had to fight back a wince. She had been trying not to mother Toph so much, recently, but some habits were difficult to break.
Not wanting to incite an argument and ruin the fairly pleasent reunion, the waterbender was quick to add, "I mean give you an idea of where a few things can be found. As you can tell, this place is very large, and I think it might... help if you have a few points of reference so you'll know what areas are safer and which ones aren't."
And again, she realized belatedly that that could be misconstrued as 'motherly' as well. It wasn't her intention, though. She just didn't want to see the earthbender end up in some demon-infested area and not even realize it until she was surrounded. Not to mention all of the dangerous spots that were inhabited by some of the less than friendly humans around here. Earthbending - any bending - could stop most if not all physical attacks on average people here. But it wouldn't necessarily stop a gun.
Not wanting to think about something that horrific actually taking place, Katara questioned curiously, "What was, uh, going on, when you left? Had the invasion happened yet?"
She knew it was a strange question to ask, but considering thus far they all seemed to have come from slightly different points in time, she felt knowing when Toph came from as well would be a good thing.
