Katara nodded, then realized that nodding wasn't answering the question. Especially not when it came to Toph. With a soft sigh, she answered, "Yes, I've come across a few of them. The vampires aren't so hard to kill. I just use holy water to bend with - that turns them to dust. Some of the demons, though... they're trickier. What works for one demon doesn't for others."
She was trying to avoid the Zuko question, which she guessed Toph probably realized and wouldn't stand for, for very long. So with another sigh - this one heavier than the last - she went ahead and bit the proverbial bullet.
"He and I were... working together," she admitted grudgingly. Speaking about Zuko hurt for some reason, and Katara wasn't sure she wanted to figure out why that was. Still, her friend had a right to know. Most of it, at any rate.
"He says he turned on the Fire Nation. He was trying to find us, so he could teach Aang firebending, when he ended up here instead." Katara's gaze went to the ground for a moment as she tried to keep her emotions in check. Neutral as possible, that was the best way to handle this Zuko issue.
"I believed him and we ended up working with a group of people who fight the monsters here. He's..." The ache in her chest seemed to grow as she forced out the last words. "He's doing really well, actually. Most demons don't do well against fire, and those that do tend to not stand up to his swords for long."
There was another pause - a painfully long one for the young waterbender - before she admitted, "As of yesterday, he was planning on teaching Aang to firebend while we're here, so he'll be ready to take on the Fire Lord when we get back." If they got back. At the rate things were going, Katara was giving up hope of that ever happening.
