“You are either brave or not very smart keeping company with the likes of vampires.” She teased him. “Have you never seen a movie? We are dangerous.” Selene made a face that gave away her thoughts. She looked almost annoyed or disgusted. “At least I am, what I have seen roving these city streets is laughable.”
His laugh suited him very well. A deep rumble that reached his eyes. “It is impossible to be a lady all of the time.” Which was funny given how she spent her nights. What she was going to say next could be taken a few different ways. She only hoped she did not come off as some desperate loon.
“The place I call home, a church actually, it is large, it is quiet, no one can hurt anyone else within its walls….should you ever need solitude or peace...a drinking partner perhaps..” Selene swallowed hard worried she would come off as if she were tossing herself at him. While she would not deny she thought him a beautiful man with eyes that led her to distraction, that was where it ended. Chemistry was instantaneous, you have it or you don’t, right? “My doors are always open.” And empty. Selene was alone and the pain of the loneliness was beginning to wear on her.
“There are no dead people to commune with…” Her words trailed off as her now very dark eyes met his. Loss. Pain. Destruction. Did he see in her eyes what she saw in his?
