At the unspoken communication from Gabriel, Sarah smiled sedately, making no immediate movements despite that fact she could pretty much gather what he wanted her to do. She had faith in both Peter's judgment and his abilities – he wouldn't get close enough to absorb it and he wouldn't let Maya remain if he saw her a threat. With the way Maya had been eyeing Peter's distance, Sarah hadn't wanted to add to that unease by joining Peter across the room, but she could see it would settle Gabriel somewhat to do so, and with the explanation of why Peter was across the room, she would do it, just not so obviously.
Poison tears. Sarah could only feel sympathy for this woman, with an ability like that. Was it a frightening 'gift'? Yes. But Sarah wasn't scared of Maya. Picking up the cookies, she crossed to the couch and placed the plate in Nathan's hands, partially because there was no table and partially because he was clenching his joined hands together so tightly she could see his knuckles turning white. Snagging another few cookies, she smiled at Maya again.
"You needed to be here, to see for yourself the things everyone was telling you," she said quietly, then wandered over to Peter with the cookies. She bumped his shoulder lightly with her own as she turned to rest against the wall next to him, keeping the contact as she settled, a purposefully calm counter to the white-knuckled worry across the room.
Knowing the woman's ability really hadn't helped Nathan much, other than to quench his curiosity. In place of that curiosity was worry, though it wouldn't have been easily known by looking at him, as he still wore the same personable, apparently easy expression as before – serious enough for the topic matter, but not an outward indicator of his unease. And he was uneasy, about the woman getting too close to Peter, about her assurance that she could control her ability, the range of her abilities and what it meant for those in the hotel. Of course, it was countered by knowing any danger to the hotel would be brief, as she would be asked to leave if danger were the case, but that didn't entirely account for the unpredictable.
When the plate was nudged into his hands, he realized he had been clenching them and made the effort to relax, casting a look in Peter's direction before returning his attention to Maya.
"None of us think you would, and Peter knows what he's doing," he said, not looking again in Peter's direction, but the direction of his thoughts speaking clearly for him just the same. Gabriel's gonna understand if you need to get further away.
