Oxygen vanishing, Sam reached out and tried to get at his gun, which had fallen out of his hand as soon as the shapeshifter had thrown himself at him. Fingers only barely grazing the handle, Sam reached up and began to push at the shapeshifter, grabbing onto his arms as he attempted to pry the monsters hands from his throat. The damned thing was strong though, and if it weren't for Trance suddenly drawing his attention away Sam never would have been able to drive his knee straight into the creatures gut.
As he doubled over, Sam scrambled to grab hold of his gun. Feeling fingers wrap themselves around his ankle, he fell down roughly and snatched up his weapon. A strong hand pulled on his leg and, soon enough, the shapeshifter was bearing its way toward him again. Kicking out, Sam forced the shapeshifter back a few steps and hurried back onto his feet. The shapeshifter grabbed onto one of his arms and they instantly began to struggle over the weaponry in Sam's grasp.
It felt as though the shapeshifter were giving up his hold on the gun, so Sam yanked it back roughly -- only in time to be punched, rather hard, in the face. The taste of blood filled his mouth as he doubled back and, quite suddenly, found himself being tackled...and through the glass door that served as the stores entrance.
Glass shattered, cutting into both Sam and the shapeshifter's flesh, but it didn't stop the two from throwing punches at one another. Shouting erupted from the shift manager from behind the counter and he instantly dashed toward the stockroom door. The two continued to fight it out, both trying to maintain a solid hold on the gun, but eventually the scene played itself out and Sam obtained the upper hand. After slamming the shapeshifters head into a shelf of cans, he towered over him with his gun pointed directly at the monsters face.
The shapeshifter tried to get at him. He did everything that he could. But it wasn't enough.
BANG, BANG, BANG.
Three shots. Two to the head, one straight through the heart. The last was the only effective shot, as silver bullets to heart were the only thing capable of taking out a shapeshifter. Blood splattered all over himself -- some his, some the shapeshifters -- Sam turned away from the body and strode off toward the parking lot.
He didn't look back. Nor did he acknowledge Trance. He did consider her though, somewhere in the back of his mind.
