"I don't him to ever know," she said shaking his head, "I've been looking it up on the internet see? Trying to work out what to do to save him so he'll get better. He needs these pills that I'm trying to get hold off so I can like put them in his food or something? Or just tell him they're something else. He was never exactly fussy about what he put in his mouth before." She closed her eyes for a moment and instantly regretted it as images of his body crossed her mind and she opened them suddenly again, her eyes damp with tears. "I think he might already know," she admitted quietly, "that he's sick I mean. This brother was sick too, died of the same thing." She took a deep breath and released it slowly, "but I'm not going to let that happen," she said forcefully.
"Well it sounds like this guy was good for something at least," she replied smiling faintly. "Sometimes we all do stupid stuff, so don't beat yourself up about it okay? I think you probably deserve at least one drink."
She smiled more brightly at her last comment, because it was exactly how Cassie felt, she'd never ever go back to Bristol now, too much had happened. "Oh well you count me in," she assured her, "I can't do anything spiffy like a lot of people here can, but I think I'm a pretty good friend, too good sometimes. My ex best friend screwed my boyfriend and then told me it was my problem," she laughed like this was really fnuny and not one of the most heartbreaking things she'd been through. "But I think I know how I can trust now thanks to her, and you seem to be in that category."
