He held on, minutes passing without number, time suspended for now as the weight of this settled into him and grew comfortable. He wasn't sure he would ever stop waiting for the other shoe to drop, as she said, but it helped, and helped a lot, to realize that she wasn't going to cower away as things continued to be unveiled.
After a time, once he felt able to move again, Peter nuzzled his forehead into her neck. "Come back to the hotel with me," he said, the light plea in his mind for her to agree. "For a few days, at least. Until we can be sure he won't come back here."
