With no intention of letting go of Claire, no matter how hard she struggled, Nathan had moved to rise as well and so was right there when her knees gave out. He couldn't truly reassure her that all was just fine right now, rather than in a few moments when wounds began to heal, as the mute on the link shielded him from the true weight of the feeling, but he did remember what it felt like to be shot. It certainly wasn't the stuff of 'comfort'.
"We have to stay here," he said, holding her to him tightly. He was certain the muttered nonsense words that followed would be ineffective as comfort now, just like spoken reassurances, but he made the attempt just the same. His gaze didn't leave the fight before them, except briefly when his eyes closed as an instinctive response to the bright light.
Leaving with Claire might still be wise, but with nearly the same insistent feeling that had guided her need to help, Nathan needed to stay.
