Anakin gave a bit of a sigh at the sight of Threepio. As the van settled into a reasonable pace, he was using a few cloths to brush up the droid's outer coverings. When they were traveling smoothly, he gently turned the protocol droid over and pried off the golden-hued body cover, and examined the mechanics in his back.
Memories of his boyhood on Tatooine flooded back as he examined the parts. A few had been replaced, but not nearly so many as one might have expected over the years. He could see areas that had been refitted, resoldered, wires realigned, and more than one place where something had fried. Overall, Anakin winced.
A moment later, he was plunged to his wrists in wires. Several were pulled out and replaced. Particularly the ones leading into the backup memory circuit Anakin had installed in the droid some four decades prior. He could see where the wires had fused. When it had happened, there was no telling.
By the time the van was slowing again, he was replacing the panel on Threepio's back. "Take us into the garage, Artoo," he said. "Then we can use the elevator from there." He'd rather keep the droids under a low profile.
