Once outside, Artoo naturally found himself rolling up into the van. Poor Threepio continued to clunk against the ground after him. The sound of bumping metal on sidewalk. It wasn't exactly pleasant. And Anakin might have to work out a few dings on Threepio's outer shell in order to make him look more house-presentable.
"Brrreeppp-brap!" Artoo answered, detaching himself from Threepio and maneuvering towards the front of the vehicle. He was a little too short to be able to see out the front window of the van so he raised his periscope eye. The GPS unit would guide him, but he needed to be able to account for unexpected items in the road.
Meanwhile, Threepio lay in a heap on the back floor of the van.
Artoo inserted his computer interface arm into the GPS unit, adjusted the settings so that he could be in control, and drove the van off the sidewalk and into the street. He was a little swervy at first, but after two or three blocks he managed to drive at a reasonably straight and average pace.
