The files Lindsey had grabbed from the records room were spread out over the long meeting table that occupied the far end of his office. Several sticky notes with scribbled nonsense stuck out here and there in various neon colors to remind him of what he was thinking where.
He would have been better off with a big board and a couple of push pins. Lindsey pulled his tie off and tossed it over one of the chairs, staring at another pile created from a half formed thought when the phone rang. He reluctantly left the pile to go answer the phone, hoping it wasn't some idiot calling him for reasons he didn't care to hear.
"Hello?"
"Mr McDonald, this is Tom from security. I'm calling to alert you that there is a vampire on the premisis."
Lindsey scowled. "Then take care of it," he said shortly, doing his damndest to keep from adding exactly how useful he believed they were. And it wasn't much.
"I believe she's allowed in the building, sir, but I wanted you to be notified anyway."
Allowed? Who would be... Lindsey didn't ponder it long before coming to a conclusion. "Thanks Tom," he said, not really caring if the man responded as he hung up. Reaching across the desk, he picked up his half empty coffee cup and took a drink just as he heard a crash outside. He winced and turned, just as the doors opened and his assumptions were proven correct.
"I really hope I'm not going to need to find a new secretary. Besides being tedious, she made really great coffee."
