WHO: Nathan Petrelli WHERE: the Hyperion WHEN: Sunday, July 3; morning [backdated] WHAT: Setting up Heidi's special day. RATING: G STATUS: narrative; complete!
Having had the idea to treat Heidi to a day and night out for some time ago, Nathan had planned out or had most of it in mind when the attack on the hotel and its fallout had come and gone, leaving him with the perfect opportunity to put it into motion. After all of that, she deserved this even more. His intent was still mostly as it had been before, to get a chance to spoil her in style and to allow them to have a night out together, but he knew the spa portion of the day would likely be even more welcome than it would have at another time.
Having secured appropriate watchful eyes for the boys for the evening portion of his plan, Nathan had kept Simon and Monty overnight in his and Peter's room the night before, under the pretense of a 'guys only' night. Though that wasn't uncommon, this time it was about having them out of the room so Heidi would sleep in the next morning and be alone to aide in him sneaking into her room with the start to her day.
As stealthily as possible the next morning, he crept in the room with the breakfast tray he had put together and set it down on the floor, close enough to the bed to be seen, but not close enough to be accidentally knocked over. It was clearly a Nathan Petrelli concoction, given that no flame had been required for the cereal, fruit, various beverages and other accompaniments, as well as the fact the bread was untoasted. However, forethought had obviously been involved, as a small toaster was sitting on the floor next to the tray, clearly unused by Nathan as it bore no signs of combustion, and a small handwritten note on an otherwise empty plate directed her toward the kitchen and the culinary skills of Gabriel if she wanted something else before her day started.
What the 'day' mentioned was hadn't been covered in the note, but tucked in a manila envelope on the tray were several smaller envelopes, one containing a certificate to Le Petite Retreat Day Spa for the "Secret Spa Package", the next a business card for a cab company and a clothing shop on Rodeo Drive, the name 'Henri' on the back of the second in Nathan's handwriting, and the final smaller envelope holding business cards for the same cab company and the Cicada Restaurant, the latter bearing the time "6:30", again written by Nathan.
All these things in place, he paused very briefly to look at her sleeping, watching the rise and fall of her breath and the flutter of her eyelashes in slumber. Before the overwhelming temptation to lean in and kiss her was acted on, ruining his surprise, he silently exited the room.
