Edward sat in the chair in his room watching the form of his beloved Bella as she slept through the night. Something he himself hadn't done in more years than he cared to count. He had missed watching her rest though, the way her face changed as her mind dropped the worries that waking hours brought. The room was quiet, high off the ground and well insulated the sounds of an always busy LA seemed far away and muted. He wasn't a fan of cities like this, he missed the quiet nights of Forks or even Alaska. He missed the space, feeling confined between the tall buildings and mass of people.
It was a quick change, the silence. Sudden it caused him to sit up from his slouch quickly, eyes darting around room. He wasn't one to always pay attention to the constant hum of voices in his head, he preffered to allow people their privacy. But the absence of it was alarming. He focused, reaching out for the people he knew would be around and while he could strain to hear a distant buzz it was silence compared to what he normally heard. Edward moved to the bed and shook Bella's shoulder lightly, moving to say her name. He tried again, the same dead air greeting him.
