The sudden arrival of Peter in the room gave Rachel a faint sense of hope. Tears blurred her vision as she slowly released her sister and allowed Peter the opportunity to help calm the girl down. It was hard, painfully so, knowing this man who was a veritable stranger to her had a better connection with her own sister than she did, but right now wasn't the time for pettiness. If someone didn't calm Annie soon, they were going to be in serious danger.
Still, even when released from her sister's grasp, Annie didn't make an immediate move to go toward Peter. Whether it was the terror flooding her own mind or something else entirely that kept her from initially hearing his thoughts sent her way, the fact of the matter was that she didn't hear him. Not at first, at least.
In fact it took a gentle nudge from Sister to get her to stop her silent screaming long enough to focus on Peter. As though just realizing he was present, the girl wasted no time in moving to him. She was clutching Bunny tightly in one arm but flung the other around his neck for a hug. Only then did she finally pick up on a muffled, muted sort of sound coming from his mind. However, instead of that fact calming her, it only served to heighten her fear and the rumbling of the Hyperion down to its very foundation was proof enough of that alone, although the windows shattering and the overhead light shattering simultaneously didn't hurt to get her point across, either.
