Laryngitis. That's what the media was likely saying. Just like with Sunnydale. Just like with every town that had fallen to the strange affliction. A city-wide epidemic that caused an automatic quarantine as the citizens struggled to carry out their day to day lives without the use of their voices. There was a certain eeriness to the streets of Los Angeles at the moment because of it, too. The silence was deafening, the lack of the church clocks signaling midnight with their chimes more than enough of a reminder of the recent epidemic to hit the City of Angels.
Yet the eeriness, it seemed, wasn't content with merely existing on its own. No, as with most tides of misfortune it brought with it a group of demons - nightmare-like creatures whose feet never touched the ground and whose smiles were always in place. They hovered, glided, across the barren streets with their henchmen moving along steadily on the pavement with them.
Their attention flickered as they moved as a cohesive unit. Taking in the scenery, learning the landscape, possibly scouting for their victims. What they were thinking, planning, doing was a mystery to anyone but themselves. One thing, however, was very certain where they were concerned.
If Los Angeles thought it was in trouble before, it hadn't begun to see anything, yet.
