Cordelia couldn't keep the pride-filled smile from her face as Peter began speaking. She could tell, just by the simple way that the being's attention once more focused solely upon Peter, that he was saying the right thing. It took a great deal for her to bite her own tongue, of course, since she really wanted to add in her opinion, but for now she stuck to her own advice and let the Champion do the speaking.
There was a pause when Peter had finished speaking, the form flickering in and out of focus for a moment, before the answer once more arrived in a chorus of voices speaking as one.
"The one you wish to help does not wish the same."
"What?!"
Cordelia couldn't help it. Her question blurted out, she wasted no time in continuing, disbelief filling every syllable. "You're wrong. Mistaken. Something. Mantis doesn't want to die!"
Wesley's form abruptly shifted as the being spun to face Cordelia. Now it resembled someone Cordelia hadn't expected to see ever again.
Groo, her mind had just enough time to register before the fake version of her former lover was speaking once more. "The being resists. Free will reigns supreme, above all. There is nothing to be done."
And for the first time in quite some time, Cordelia found herself stunned speechless. She glanced first to Peter, then to Nathan, a helpless sort of expression replacing her typical self-confidence.
