Giving a little grunt at the question, as if he understood and sympathised, Appa watched Leslie for several moments before going back to grazing, evidently deciding that he'd done his good deed for the day and that dinner was now his top priority.
After a few moments, though, a quiet voice spoke up behind the girl.
"I never knew mine. I was raised by the monks at the Temple." Aang slid up beside her, offering a quiet, fond smile. "They were pretty good to me, though, for the most part. I mean, they all knew I was the Avatar, so it was nice of them to treat me like a normal kid." He bumped his hip with Leslie's gently. "I'll bet you would've liked it there."
