And score one for me, too, Cordelia thought smugly. Granted that only made them tied, but it was better than Lindsey being in the lead. Anything was better than that.
His comment about Angel being useless, though, caused her to stiffen. Rather than express annoyance at his statement, a look of anger crossed her face. "Angel is just as helpful as a human," she stated firmly. Granted, okay, that wasn't entirely true. But that didn't mean that Cordelia didn't believe it wholeheartedly. She just needed Angel to realize it and get back into the thick of things.
A heartbeat passed before she spoke again. She was busy trying to come up with something scathing in reply, some sort of dig that would guarantee he had the same type of reaction she'd had. Unfortunately, that was one of the drawbacks to having a morally corrupt enemy. There wasn't much you could hurt them with. Especially when they were finally in the driver's seat of the company they'd wanted to run all along.
Finally she decided to just speak what was on her mind. Not that she'd ever considered much else, really. She just opted to do it without a clear plan of attack for the moment.
"So," she stated, "you won." She paused, figuring that might get some kind of reaction from him, before adding, "You made it past the end of the week. For some reason, I just couldn't bring myself to kill in cold blood like you did. Not even if you deserve it."
Turning a bit so she was facing him directly, she asked coolly, "Tell me something, Lindsey. How does it feel, finally getting what you want only to realize you have to murder innocent sixteen-year-old girls in order to stay on top?"
