"Is that why you think I'm here? To steal away your family?"
Obi-Wan wasn't even sure what to say to that. And Anakin's argument that having been both dark and light made him balanced was, admittedly, not something that Obi-Wan could completely understand. Actually, it scared him. It went against everything he'd ever learned in his Jedi training. It went against the code. Not to mention the laws of the Council. And it went against what he felt most deeply in himself to be true.
How could there be balance in the Dark Side?
There couldn't be. He'd refuse to believe that. Thoughts such as those only led Jedi astray. That's how it started. First the curiosity, then the one-time test of power, then the lust of the Dark Side took hold. And afterward, personal destruction.
It couldn't be true. The Dark Side couldn't lead to balance in the Force. It couldn't lead to peace.
Obi-Wan paused for a moment, his thoughts suddenly lost somewhere deep inside of himself. A dangerous move if this were to suddenly turn violent. But Obi-Wan felt that they were both too tired of the battle. A battle which had seemingly gone on for years.
"Your change to Vader is not something I can easily wipe from my memory. Nor is it something I can easily forgive. It is not that I refuse to believe you. It is that I require convincing. And trust is something you earn back. It may take time."
