"Nonsense." Heidi replied, knocking on the back window--a signal for the boys to buckle their belts. "I know where I am now, I have directions, and my while this conversation may have inspired a new brand of unsettled, I've been talked down from a potential panic attack over being in a strange city and nearly rear-ending someone in a year that otherwise had an impeccable car insurance record. Giving him a smile, she slipped back behind the wheel, triple-checked her mirrors, took a deep breath, and pulled back onto the street.
"Mom, who was that?" Both boys demanded, in two different ways that collided into near unintelligeability.
"That might just have been our lead." Heidi said, and turned at the corner, glancing back at the helpful figure on the sidewalk in the mirror; not sure whether she hoped to see a foreign street name or rain when they settled back on the road.
