"Hey," Cordelia snapped back, "did you not see the part where he's spitting FLESH-EATING ACID?" Even as she spoke - and back-stepped - she managed to get the bolt free and slid it into the crossbow. "Okay, Nathan," she called, "I'm going around the other way. Keep the Forrest Gimp over there out of trouble."
Moving around Nathan - cutting a wide berth around the wall of fire - she managed to reach the backside of the demon with only slightly singed clothing. The demon was engulfed in flames and screaming in pain, yet still caught up in its rage and swiping out at anything within reach. Not much, really, but Cordelia couldn't risk those claws getting through that fire and reaching Nathan.
So she wasted no time in firing her crossbow again, this time aiming for its back. With a roar the demon spun and snatched her off the ground. Her breath knocked from her, Cordelia grunted in pain and yanked her final bolt free from the pouch at her side. She held it tightly in one hand, waited until the demon brought her close to its mouth, then held onto the bolt with both hands and drove the pointed side into the third eye on the demon's face as hard as she could.
It shrieked and flung her away before stumbling backward and crashing through the wall of a nearby building. Cordelia, meanwhile, slammed hard into the far wall and slumped to the ground. Her vision swam for a second and she struggled to breathe, but finally managed to suck in some air.
"Need to go," she announced as she climbed shakily back to her feet. "We've got about ten seconds before its mate shows up wanting revenge."
And sure enough, a shriek similar to the one that had left the creature's mouth moments before it died echoed throughout the city. Cordelia glanced over her shoulder then back to Nathan. "Save the juice on that thing. We may need it again if it tracks us. Now, let's move."
