Jacen winced. It was just his luck that the most important confession in Allana's young life would go unheeded. He was relieved that the saleswoman did not question Allana's use of his name. He did not quite sigh in relief when she went off to find shoes, but he did mentally decide that he would have to work with Allana more often.
Stooping down, he whispered to her, "Allana, sweetie, you should not call me by name in public. It is very...suspicious. And if people get suspicious, they increase the danger you are in. Can you call me daddy and pretend I am your daddy in public? You can call me Jacen back home, ok?"
Until that moment, Jacen never knew how desperately he had craved to hear that from Allana. He almost his breath, hoping she would agree.
