If he wasn't so furious, the absurdity of that statement would have made Nathan laugh. As it was, he had to swallow an 'I'd like to see you try!' to avoid this turning from a verbal face off to something far, far different. That cost him, however, and that smothered comment's tone still came out with different words, utterly hostile.
"I'm listening, Ma, and you just keep saying the things to send everyone off in a fury. And I'm not just blaming you!" His voice was raising, despite the effort to control it. "I accept the blame for that ever happening to him, because I didn't do anything to stop it in the end. But I realized, back when I went after him that night, that it wasn't just about being wrong to blow up five million people, I was wrong for ever agreeing to the goddamned plan as long as I did, wrong to do every damned thing I did to him in the process.
