No. No. That wasn't what was supposed to happen. That wasn't what she had prepared for. Those weren't the eventualities that she had foreseen. Peter had left. Nathan had been killed. Claire had been murdered. Their kind had been treated like criminals. The words rung in her head as she backed up against the wall and closed her eyes.
"That wasn't what was supposed to happen," Angela said quietly. "That wasn't what we were prepared for."
That was the best she could do to explain, it truly was. When something was inevitable, the best one could do was prepare for the fallout and settle in for the rollercoaster ride that would take them there. But this was...far more fallout than she had been equipped to deal with. More than Daniel had probably been equipped to deal with, either. Vegas was probably the only thing he would have had the resources to protect and probably the only thing he would have bothered to, anyway. Daniel Linderman was always out for number one.
"We wouldn't have been able to respond to a backlash like that."
And she wouldn't have been equipped to deal with anything after losing most of her family.
