Nathan's focus was entirely on the vampire, as he had no reason to worry about its victim. This one was faster than several he faced, but he was prepared for it and he was becoming familiar with how they moved. Inevitably, unless they were very old and very smart, they left a weak point exposed in their fury and bloodlust, one he was all too happy to take advantage of every time.
With a grunt, as the impact was a factor, he drove the stake into the vampire's chest just as the victim started screaming again. He was somewhat used to them reacting that way at times, seeing someone drive a piece of wood into another, attacking vampire or not, but that scream brought forth a known namer in gut-twisting familiar tone.
Parkman?!
Whipping his head around even as the dust settled around him, Nathan stared for a moment in utter shock. This seriously wasn't happening. His mother had not just arrived here. In a minute, he would wake up.
Even shock, however, couldn't negate his automatic response to his mother's distress, and he moved forward after those few frozen moments, water gun and stake clattering to the ground as he reached her, hands held out but not touching her.
"Ma. Ma.," he said, perhaps more loudly than necessary but he needed her attention. Even in his shock, however, he wasn't stupid enough to grab her if she thought someone had her stuck in her own head. He'd been there, after all. "No one is in your head. Listen to me. Listen. Ma, it's me, it's Nathan, and I'm real. No one is in your head. This is real, Ma. It's real and you're fine, okay? You're just fine, but you gotta calm down."
