While Kitty hadn't known Katara very well, she still thought putting in an appearance at her memorial service was important. And so, there she stood, hanging in back of the crowd that had gathered on the pier. It really was a beautiful day, and yet the atmosphere was quite gloomy and depressing, as funerals often were.
Kitty had seen her share of death in recent years, but it never got easier to accept that it was apart of life. Everyone (at least those who were mortal) would eventually have to face it on their own one day. But, the good thing that generally happened during someone's passing was that people got a renewed interest in their own lives, to live them to the fullest and without regret.
As a gentle breeze blew through her hair, Kitty closed her eyes for a moment and drew in a slow, deep breath. She had told herself that she wasn't going to let her emotions get the better of her, but she couldn't help it.
The familiar sting in the corner of her eyes made her open her eyes, and tears began filling them to the brim. But, they did not fall.
