Spike didn't like the sounds of that. At all. He looked back and forth between Lucifer and Dawn, then shook his head and stepped even further in front of Dawn. "No. No bloody fucking way. She's not going to throw herself into the pit for my sake!" He was scared of Lucifer, he wasn't going to lie. But Spike would face him any day if Dawn's soul was on the line. It would be pointless trying to reason with the devil though, so Spike turned back and stared Dawn down instead.
"Look, he's trying to trap us both. That's what the devil does. He tricks people. Don't bargain with him, it's downright stupid." Dawn was smart, wasn't she? She would never sink to that kind of low. "Buffy would never approve of you doing something like that. Especially not for me. So I want you to just walk away from this, all right? Go back to where you belong, live your happy life out, and let me serve my sentence down here. As I bloody well should." Arms folding across his chest, Spike then turned back to look at Lucifer.
"And shame on you for thinking that you could manipulate a kid into some stupid bargain!"
