Obi-Wan was relieved to hear that they had chosen wisely in Organa. He could only hope that the same was of the Lars family. Although, Obi-Wan knew that growing up on Tatooine would be far from lavish. But it was a safe planet. Despite its greed and corruption. It was safe. Safe from the Empire and safe from the Sith.
His brows raised when she asked about Anakin. That was a surprise. Quite a surprise actually. And he had to pause in thought before responding, his expression crinkling a bit. This would require careful wording. It was not his place to pass judgment on a man who may or may not have been the same man he saw turn to the Dark Side of the Force. Then again, it wouldn't be fair for him to try and fluff the story any. He would just say it as he knew it.
"Anakin is obstinant."
Okay. Maybe that wasn't the best way to begin.
The waitress finally returned with their drinks and Obi-Wan took a long sip of water before continuing. He cleared his throat.
"Anakin was a very intelligent and gifted boy. He was a natural at fixing things. He was curious and quick to learn. My master once said of Anakin that he gives without any thought of reward. And he did."
Obi-Wan canted his head to the side, staring into the water as though he could see his own memories reflected in the ripples leftover from his sip.
"He was my Padawan learner. He was exceptionally strong in the Force and his skills quickly surpassed my own. But he had difficulty focusing. Mostly because of his mother. She was a constant distraction from his studies. Yoda was right. He was too old to be trained as a Jedi. Too old and too emotional. I don't know if that can be considered his fault. A lot of it was ours. Mine, maybe. He loved his mother. But a Jedi needs to be separate from his emotions. Able to control them. Too much emotion leads to the Dark Side."
Obi-Wan sighed.
"Anakin was a dear friend. He was like a brother to me."
Anything else he could say might influence her feelings. So he would settle with that, unless she insisted on the details of more particular incidents.
