"Perhaps it's both, as far as protection," Nathan said, understanding that idea all too well, but better with the idea by far than he would have been years ago. "Which is good and, in the end, right because you are sisters, and even if others can't understand Annie entirely, Annie certainly understands enough to give back to those she cares about."
He turned her arm slightly, looking at the wound from a different angle as he continued. "As for this?" He nodded to the room. "I sincerely doubt this is anything that people here are unwilling to deal with to have Annie here. And though your sister can protect herself pretty well, this is still the safest place for both of you."
The smaller pieces of glass came out far easier and he set those aside on the gauze as well, quiet as he as wrapped it up and then turned back to her, debating. The faucet would have enough water pressure to flush out the area, but he knew it would hurt.
"This is going to sting," he warned, "but we need to get your arm under water. Just a precaution."
