That someone without gifts was somehow unique given the concentration of those with powers in the hotel was more than a bit funny to Nathan. It wasn't enough to make him laugh out loud, but it did soften the lines on his brow put there by his focus on her wound. He'd gotten the biggest piece of glass free first, and thankfully without much difficultly, so he set to work on the tiny fragments remaining so he could clean and bandage it.
Her question drew his attention momentarily away, though he didn't really have to consider his answer. "I don't think it's wrong at all," he said, looking up at her with the tweezers paused over her arm. "For as dangerous as this place is, there are things about it that make it worthwhile to be here. It's a balance. Besides," he smiled, somewhat amused, "I think Annie's the least likely to be in danger. But I understand the worry. No matter how much they're capable of, or how big they get, older siblings will always want to protect the younger ones."
