Out of everything she'd just been told, one thing in particular stuck out for Rachel. "Boogeymen?" she questioned faintly, glancing to her little sister. The girl peered solomnly up at her and nodded once, sedately.
"'oogeylady," Annie verified and Rachel swallowed.
She looked to Nathan, then to Peter. "If Annie's staying, so am I," she stated simply. Her attention flickered back to her sister. "Annie, I have something for you..."
Reaching into the bag she had slung over her shoulder, she produced a small doll with hair made of red yarn. She held it out in front of her, smiling at the squeal of excitement from the autistic teen.
"Baby!" Annie crowed with delight, taking the doll from her sister and hugging it close. "Baby. Bunny." She held both tightly, loving on them with her cheek as a small child might, her gaze locked onto Rachel.
Ruffling the girl's hair, Rachel rose into a fully standing position and looked at the two brothers. "Thank you for taking care of her. I don't know what I would have done if something had happened to her." Just the thought alone seemed enough to put a faint look of horror on her face, eyes widened slightly and skin so pale it was nearly translucent.
