Eddie only knew what Lex thought it important to tell him and it seemed that Lex knew just what not to let him in on. He was a useful ally when he was treated fairly, when he approved of what you were, but he did not take kindly to anything that he considered evil, or to anybody who he thought to be guilty. Venom doled out harsh punishments to the people, to the creatures, to the vampires, that did something wrong in his eyes. He liked to take the law into his own hands when the police weren’t doing their job, and when Venom did that, people died, people screamed and pleaded. They would rather be hauled off to prison than face him. Venom was the last thing that they wanted to see.
There was compassion for Chloe, compassion because she was pregnant and a woman, one who he didn’t place in that dreaded ‘guilty’ category. Maybe it was Gwen who made him softer around the edges when Venom wasn’t in complete control and angry over something or the other, but most importantly, angry over Peter Parker’s arrival. He’d gone for the girl for that reason and he could thank Chloe for interrupting when she did. Otherwise, he would have killed her, and then Eddie would have regretted it, just like he regretted the man from the night before. He really shouldn’t have killed him…
“But you married him. Why did you do that if you don’t exactly like him?” He was confused by that, mostly because he wasn’t aware of the circumstances surrounding their marriage. He didn’t know Lex like she did. “And I don’t know about that… I mean, he doesn’t seem so bad.”
