Eddie walked around to the driver’s side and got in shortly after she was sitting uncomfortably in wait. A key was pulled out of his jacket, put in its place and with a warming-up from the engine, the Lexus rolled away from the curb and glided onto the street. He drove with one hand on the wheel and the other arm resting against the open window. Eddie was sated and relaxed when she was nowhere near it. He was worry-free and sure of himself. With Lex’s wife safely in the car, the hard part had already ended. There was nothing left to fret over. She was about to be driven to where her husband wanted her and when they got there, Lex would be happy. Hopefully.
Their drive was quiet, uncomfortably without noise that didn’t come from the car or from the city surrounding them. The air was blown out in cool gusts, the radio had been turned off hours before he had found her and the smell of new leather was distinct. The car was just another offering from Lex, something else given to gain his trust. The car added to Eddie’s reason for thinking that Luthor was a sane, giving member of society.
Red lights were paid attention to and the vehicle halted at stop signs. It zoomed down the lane of surprisingly agreeable traffic and it was only when the other cars became fewer in number that Eddie cleared his throat to break the silence.
“I don’t know why you think it’s so bad. Lex will give you anything you want. I’m sure you’ll do fine at the mansion.” In his voice there was an implication of reassurance, something that was more human, more compassionate, than anything that Venom would have given her.
