Nate wasn't hearing what Peter meant to say. He's my best friend. You're my brother. I didn't want to upset you. And I wasn't expecting an army of kids to show up. I overreacted. And you got to feel like public enemy Number One. I'm sorry.
He smiled when Nathan hugged Annie, and then gave her back half the cookie.
Peter shook his head after Nathan spoke. "No. The person who made me upset was called Darla." There was a light tremor in Peter's voice when he said her name. "Everything else is just consequence from her." He gave Luke's shoulder a light squeeze and got back to his feet. "No one here is going to hurt anyone else. Except the bad guys."
He rubbed his head, feeling drained, realizing that the whole leaving-the-room thing had turned out to be a bad idea. He had Hiro now, but Hiro might have been able to find the place on his own. And sending someone else to get him...
Oh, hell. Forget it. Peter turned a bit, putting a hand on the railing. "I'm gonna go back to my room," he announced. "Luke, I'd really appreciate it if you can show Hiro to one of the spare rooms? I just.. I need to lie down for a bit." Before anyone had much time to answer, Peter was pulling himself up the stairs, meaning to shut himself back in his room for a while.
