Still suspicious, but willing to be placated for the moment, Luke gave a hesitant nod, twisting his hands into his shirt as he fidgeted. His eyes, bright and slowly calming, flickered back and forth between Annie, and Peter and his friend--as if he was keeping an eye on her. Which he was; as long as someone was, Mantis was usually content not to come down. Which was a good thing, because Luke knew that Mantis hadn't been having a good week, and if he was forced to come downstairs, he'd be in a really bad mood.
"It en't nothin' personal," he said after a moment, gaze flickering up at last to meet Hiro's boldly, "but see, I gotta look out for my friends. An' I didn't know what you'd done to make Annie mad an' upset Peter." Granted, he supposed that it was the other guy who had, but still-- he was grouping new people together for the moment.
"So you really got one of them katana-things?" he queried as he slid his arms from the backpack, setting it down on the ground and reaching down to untie his shoes. "I was lookin' it up on the web, an' it looked real interesting. The technology en't even comparable to a lightsaber, but it seems like it needs just as much skill, if not more." One shoe was off, leaving his foot small and bare and pale, as skinny as the rest of him. "I think I'm most interested in the steel-folding process, as it seems to me like you'd really need to have a lotta' practice to get it right." The other shoe was off, and Luke picked them up, putting them in his bag. "I mean, how d'you deal with the balance issues? There en't no counterbalances that I can see on 'em, at least not on the pictures I saw. So is there an equation, or is it guesswork?" Luke was in his element when it came to making things.
