The entire journey had almost seemed surreal. Sometimes it felt as if there would never be an end in fight, other times, the hope burned brightly inside of him. The defeat had weighted heavily on his mind, it was the physical ramifications, but the emotional ones. When everything was on the line, saving Cordelia, serving justice to someone that had taken so much, he had failed. Her, his friends, the world. It had only been through the amazing will power that belonged to a group of team members and strangers that they were standing in front of the Hyperion.
Despite all of those factors, there wasn't a frown on his lips, nothing on his features indicated he was upset. Quite the opposite. He was smiling, his eyes were shining, and the waning rays from the sun were on his face. Most of all Cordelia was standing next to him. That fact alone changed everything. She was there. With him. Nothing else mattered in the end. All he had wanted to do was get her back, and no matter the method, it had been accomplished.
"Now or never, right?" The human heart that now belonged to him was beating rapidly within his chest, a change that he had yet to get use to, but willingly embraced. Did he deserve such a thing? No...he didn't. But he wanted so bad to keep it. "Besides..they'll all want to see you."
He knew Cordy better than most people, maybe better than anyone, and could tell right away that she had been teasing him. Sometimes he was oblivious, just not this exact moment. He knew once they stepped inside, things were going to become much more chaotic, plenty of questions to be answered. This might be their last moment of peace together for a few days.
"I wish we could. Rain check." Lips curved upwards in a half smile. Maybe, just maybe, they could have a mini-vacation just to themselves. It was a nice thought, at least.
