It had taken quite some time, but at long last the doctors agreed that Lily was fit enough to leave the hospital. They wanted her to come back the following week for a check-up to make certain everything was healing properly, and ordered her to take it easy for a while so that she didn't overexert herself. However, considering how precariously close to death's door she'd been, all in all things were shaping up for a happy resolution.
Well, happy if you didn't take into account that Ron Weasley was still convinced Severus was evil and would likely try to convince Lily of as much the first chance he had. Or the fact that Harry was now here (according to a post made by Ron a few days earlier on the message board) and was, apparently, grown. Then there was Lupin's sudden arrival and, well, needless to say Severus was still half-expecting the remaining Marauders to show up at any given second and for James to steal Lily away as he'd done all those years before.
This time, though, Severus had the faint hope things would be different. Lily knew of his past, knew of a good majority of the things he'd done, and was aware that he'd ultimately given his own life to protect her son's. She'd forgiven him for his slights and he was older (mentally, at least) now, so he knew better than to make the same idiotic, rash decisions he'd made in his youth that had cost him their friendship. Granted, friendship was much different than being together in any romantic sense, but it was better than enemies so he was content. For now.
He was also taking her to his hotel room. He'd already spoken with the owner of the establishment and had made the arrangements. Food would be waiting for them in the small refrigerator, two full sized beds now replaced the one larger bed he'd once had in the room, and the owner's wife had even offered to purchase some clothes and various other personal items that Lily might need once she'd had a chance to meet the girl and get a feel for her size and preference. Really, it was an ideal situation and Severus found himself grateful for the Muggles.
A taxi took both he and Lily from the hospital to their new, temporary place of residence and he helped her from the car with a murmured thanks to the driver along with his payment. Once the taxi had pulled away, Severus turned his attention to the redhead beside him and offered a hint of a smile.
"Come along, then," he urged in a gentle tone, one arm around her whether she needed the assistance or not. She always had been too stubborn for her own good and he wasn't going to let her become harmed again if he could help it. "You need to rest."
