The tone of Katara's voice instantly recaptured Kathy, and the child regarded the older girl steadily. The fact that finally someone was giving her answers, treating her like a real person, soothed her more than any words of comfort ever could.
"There must be some way..." she said quietly, refusing to believe that this Davy Jones was, in the purest sense of the word, immortal. If her brother could be killed, then in her eyes? Anybody could be killed.
When Katara rose to kneel in front of her, Kathy listened with rapt attention, soaking in every word. A heavy moment of silence hung between them after Katara had finished speaking, during which Kathy contemplated everything she had just said.
"I'll do anything, if it'll bring Cordy and me brother back," she stated quietly, her lip quivering a little. "An' if ye think it's possible...I'll stay."
She drew in a shaky breath. "Th'only thing I ask is that you be careful...and, if it isn't terrible trouble...might I stay in 'is room tonight?"
