He wasn’t necessarily watching Lex, but he was aware of his every move.
Eddie looked like the kid who had put himself back into a corner out of wariness for the others who were close by. Maybe he wasn’t sure of what they were and what they could do, or maybe he feared them and wanted to keep himself away. Those were both possible thoughts that could have been running through the heads of the men and women who stood around him.
In all honestly, Eddie didn’t stand where he did out of fear or lack of being sure. He did as he did because it toned him down and made him look unthreatening when he was anything but innocent. Without the fangs and the claws, he could fool onlookers into believing that he was hardly worth their time. He could appear as if he were a young man who should have been outside snapping pictures for a newspaper, rather than attending a meeting with a bunch of evil-doers.
Just as long as he stayed quiet and looked nobody in the eye… If he did none of that, he could play the part that he wanted. If he failed and did those things, they would know for sure that something was definitely wrong with him.
The woman with the black hair took notice of him. She was dark and dangerous and Eddie looked right back at her, opened his mouth to smile in his own sort of acknowledgment. There were fangs to be shown when he did as he did, but just as fast as they flashed, they were gone.
