Claire had already bolted from their motel room. Giselle would be absolutely fine on her own for a little while, and the funny maiden was sleeping anyway. She did not need Claire, but Peter did. She could feel his pain and desperation, like it was her own. Of course she knew. She just couldn’t believe that it had taken her this long to figure something out. How long had he been trying to reach her for? There was a tinge of guilt, for not hearing him earlier. For not helping him.
But it wasn’t the time to think about what she hadn’t done. Peter needed her, and she wouldn’t let him down. The city was a scary place, especially without the sun, but Claire wasn’t afraid. She could regenerate from nearly anything, and she’d died before…as long as she helped Peter first, she wasn’t too scared to face death again.
They were connected, she could feel his pain, and everything that he was going through, and that meant that he could probably feel her guilt about not knowing that something was wrong earlier. As long as she got to Peter and helped him, she didn’t even care. She just kept running in the direction she thought the connection was coming from. Peter was reaching out to her, and she wouldn’t let him down. And given how weak the connection seemed to be, he didn’t seem like he had a lot of time before whatever was happening to him happened…and if Claire lost Peter, she could never forgive herself.
And so she ran, she ignored the sensations in her legs that happened when a person had been running too long and needed to rest. She didn’t have the time to rest, she would be fine. She was amazing resilient. After all, she was 21 years old and she didn’t look a day over sixteen. Would she always look like this? Now was not the time for that, he needed her. She would not fail him. She might not have been able to save so many others when her father had her in hiding…but she would save Peter.
Please hang on…I’m coming…
She tried to keep the terror and worry out of that thought, but it was nearly impossible. She wanted to be strong for him, and for him to be proud of her for not falling apart when he needed her most.
