God, that sounded familiar. That sounded so disgustingly familiar.
"Suzie, you were good enough," Owen said with a firmness in his voice that almost dared her to argue with him. "You were the only one of us that could even get the glove to work at all. You were the only one of us that could take over for someone else with any level of competency if something happened. There was a reason you were second in command, Suze, and it wasn't just because you were the first person that Jack hired out of the four of us."
Owen sat there quietly for a long moment, staring down at the floor before speaking again.
