"She died," Owen said, his words coming out clipped and hallow, the briefness of the statement just making it far too clear that there was more to it than just that. His grip on Tosh's hand tightened a bit, a certain desperation in the action. His eyes turned to fix on the floor as he continued, opening his mouth for a moment before closing it, turning the words over in his head slowly. He'd never actually talked about this out loud, not after Jack had brought him back to the Hub. He wasn't quite sure how to put it anymore.
"We met at university," Owen said softly. "Both pre-med, both so certain we were going to save the world," a very wistful, longing smile crossed his face. "She was...brilliant. Perfect memory. Put me to shame how well she knew some of the material. She was in the top five percent of our class. I was lucky to manage top twenty. Katherine Russell. My Katie."
