Lily didn’t want to believe it. He had to be lying to her. Ronald Weasley was probably just trying to hurt her. She didn’t have any clue why he would do that, but she thought he was. Severus could not possibly have hurt Dumbledore, and there was no way that he had a hand in what happened to her. And besides, she couldn’t even see herself with James Potter. That was ludicrous. He had far too big of a mean streak for Lily to ever want anything to do with him, so unless he approved greatly, it simply was not possible.
She wanted to believe in Severus, but she couldn’t figure out why Ron would lie to her, what would he have to gain from it? He’d told her to check Sev’s arm for the dark mark. It would not be there and then Lily would be relieved. Maybe Ron had just been mistaken, who knew. In any case, she was unwilling to believe that her dear friend would do anything like what Ron was implying.
Her usual brilliant green eyes were red and puffy from crying, but she made her way to where he was staying anyway. She knocked on the door, choking back a whimper. One way or another, she was going to find out if what the Weasley boy was saying was true. She didn’t think Sev would lie to her.
She was shaking as she knocked out the door, and immediately looked at the ground, this would not be an easy conversation. When he answered, she couldn’t help but look up at him, her bottom lip quivering from all she was feeling right now.
“Tell me it isn’t true Sev, please tell me that it's not true.” Her eyes begged him. She didn’t think she could handle it if he truly had done all of those horrible things.
